The Lathums talk supporting The Killers and working with Adele’s producer

Indie Rock group The Lathums were just teenagers when their college music tutor put them together for a project – unaware of the meteoric rise that they would have to fame.

In just eight months, the group, who hail from Wigan in Greater Manchester, have reached the number one spot on the UK charts with their debut album How Beautiful Life Can Be in September 2021 – before selling out concerts across the country.

Yet despite their success, the band were completely surprised when they were asked to support global megastars The Killers on their upcoming European tour dates and speaking exclusively to Daily Star, singer Alex Moore said it was something they were certainly not expecting.

"No, not at all," said Alex.

"It got put to us, and like, they've been knocking around for ages The Killers. They've been a top level band for years, so it's amazing for us.

"Playing and maybe gaining thousands of new fans, but at the same time, it's good to watch people that have been perfecting their craft as long as they have. It'll be interesting and it'll be exciting."

That's not all, as Alex also revealed the group's humbling experience of collaborating with celebrated record producer Jim Abiss, who has worked with award winning artists including Adele, Bombay Cycle Club and The Arctic Monkeys, saying: "He's renowned as an amazing producer.

"It makes it a bit sweeter that he wants to work with us, because he has worked with massive bands and really talented people. The fact that he wants to work with us, that's a good sign."

With their first ever headline slot coming up at Liverpool Sound City Festival on Saturday April 30, 2022, where Alex is excited to see other rising stars including Rianne Downey, the band have plenty to celebrate about as they hit the next chapter of their career.

"You've got to celebrate haven't you?" said Alex.

"Everyday is a celebration when you're working in music. We're just having a good time."

Speaking following the release of their latest catchy single Sad Face Baby, Alex also said that the group want to push their sound in a different direction, saying: "I like to push it as far as we can and see where we can get. The sound – I want the sound to constantly be evolving, as that's the only way you can get better, pushing yourself out of your comfort zone."

But their ultimate goal? Alex knows exactly.

"Just take over the world," said Alex.

"I mean that in the most sincere way possible. Just take our music to wherever people will listen to it.

"Before we started the band, I had never really been out of Wigan me. Going up and down the UK, then going to America, then going to see Europe. That's what I want to be doing. Singing songs. Making people happy."
