Titanic is everybody's favourite epic romance movie. Filled with disaster, love and heartbreak, and following a real life disaster, the movie is almost as sad as some of its stars' real lives.
From choosing celibacy, battling ovarian cancer, winning and losing awards, and dressing up as a chicken (yes, really) – the cast has had some wild rides since the great ship.
Leonardo DiCaprio, who plays the ill-fated Jack Dawson, celebrates his 47th birthday today (November 11), so Daily Star is taking a look at what he and his co-stars have been up to since the film was released in 1997.
Jack Dawson played by Leonardo DiCaprio
Leonardo was in his early twenties when he took on his role in Titanic.
He was just 22 when he played Jack Dawson – the boy who stole all of our hearts and then broke them in a matter of minutes.
Although he wasn't nominated for Best Actor when Titanic came out, his acting in the movie saw him sky-rocket to worldwide fame.
Since his stint on the cruise ship that tragically sank, he has starred in many Hollywood hits like The Man in the Iron Mask, Catch Me If You Can, The Aviator and The Wolf of Wall Street.
Jack and Rose (well, Leonardo and Kate) reunited as lovers on-screen when they both starred in Revolutionary Road together.
It had become a running gag that Leo would never win an Oscar, but in 2016 he won an Academy Award (Oscar) for Best Actor for his role in The Reverent.
As for his personal life, Leo has been in a relationship with Argentine-American model and actress Camila Morrone since 2017, though he has often been linked to women in their early 20s, as well as other supermodels, such as Gisele Bundchen and Bar Refaeli.
Back in 2005, his face was severely injured when another model, Aretha Wilson, hit him round the head with a broken bottle at a party in Hollywood.
She pled guilty and was sentenced to two years in prison.
Rose DeWitt Bukater played by Kate Winslet
When Titanic was filmed, Kate was just 21 years of age.
After starring in the blockbuster smash-hit, she became the youngest person to be nominated for six Academy Awards at 33 – although she has now been nominated for seven in total.
Kate is one of the very few actors who is known as an "EGOT" after winning coveted awards at the Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, and Tonys.
Since her success in the 1997 movie, Kate has starred in Iris, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Finding Neverland, Little Children and Revolutionary Road.
More recently, Kate has starred in Steve Jobs, for which she won a Golden Globe for.
Marvel's Eternals' post-credit scene – what it means and hunky new star
Kate has had a rocky romantic life behind the scenes but is now said to be loved up with Edward Abel Smith (legally known as Ned Rocknroll from 2008 to 2019) after they met in a house fire on Richard Brandon's Necker Island estate.
The couple married in December 2012 in New York, and their son, Bear, was born the following year.
She is also mum to actress Mia Honey Threapleton from her marriage to director Jim Threapleton, and son Joe Alfie Winslet Mendes from her marriage with director Sam Mendes.
Nowadays, the screen star can be picky about choosing work and she doesn't like to be away from her kids for too long, instead working around their school holidays.
Kate and her family moved back to England and purchased a property worth £3.25million by the sea in West Wittering, Sussex, where she lives with Ned and her children as of 2015.
Molly Brown played by Kathy Bates
Kathy Bates portrayed the unsinkable Molly Brown in 1997, but was already a huge star beforehand.
Her career has gone from strength to strength and she hasn't stopped since starring in the blockbuster.
She has starred in TV series and movies, racking up film credits, awards and TV credits.
Since Titanic she has starred in HBO's Six Feet Under, the 1999 Annie remake, Dash & Lilly, and the US version of The Office.
In 2008, she reunited with both Leonardo and Kate when she starred in Revolutionary Road.
She later won her second ever Emmy for her role as Madame Delphine LaLaurie on season three of American Horror Story.
In 2003, Kathy was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and has battled it ever since.
In September 2012, she revealed via Twitter that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer two months earlier and had undergone a double mastectomy.
In 2014, at the New York Walk for Lymphedema & Lymphatic Diseases, Bates announced via pre-recorded audio that, due to the double mastectomy, she has lymphedema in both arms.
Cal Hockley played by Billy Zane
High School Musical cast now – life-threatening illness to nude leak apology
Zane played Cal Hockley in Titanic, and let's face it – he was probably the most disliked character in the whole movie.
But since Titanic, he's gone on to achieve some very cool things.
Zane had a very instrumental part in the creation of the critically acclaimed film The Believer, in which he starred as neo-Nazi and worked opposite Ryan Gosling.
He's continued to work in film and has appeared in TV shows like Charmed.
Zane starred in the 2012 thriller film The Kill Hole.
In January 2017 he appeared in a commercial for KFC as a gold-coloured Colonel Sanders to pitch the restaurant chain's newest limited-time flavour, Georgia Gold Honey Mustard BBQ chicken.
His love life has been rocky to say the least and he has dated some really beautiful women.
Zane was married to actress Lisa Collins from 1989 until 1995.
He was then engaged to Chilean actress Leonor Varela, before later becoming engaged to British model and actress Kelly Brook, whom he met when they co-starred in the movie Survival Island/Three together.
They split in April 2008, got back together again shortly thereafter, then ended the relationship later in 2008, it is believed.
He is now engaged to Candice Neil who is the mother of his two daughters. Their first daughter, Ava Catherine, was born in 2011, and their second daughter, Gia, was born in 2014.
Ruth DeWitt Bukater played by Frances Fisher
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air cast now – tragic death, co-star feuds and career overhaul
Frances Fisher played Ruth DeWitt Bukater – Rose's pushy mother – in Titanic.
Since her stint on the ship, she has appeared in films like True Crime, House of Sand and Fog, Laws of Attraction, The Kingdom, and The Lincoln Lawyer.
In 2014, Frances began starring in the ABC drama series Resurrection.
And in 2015 she played the mother of Ryan Reynolds character in Woman in Gold.
In 1970, when Frances was 18, she married her high school sweetheart Billy Mack Hamilton, but they divorced two years later.
Frances dated Clint Eastwood in the early to mid 1990s. During that time, the couple had a daughter, Francesca Eastwood in 1993.
After her split from Eastwood, Fisher dated fellow actor George Clooney in 1995.
Fisher has explained that finding a boyfriend was difficult while raising a child on her own. She stated in 2010 that "as a single mom, you know, it's been a different thing. No gentleman callers."
And it seems things didn't get any easier, as in March 2011, she declared she was celibate.
Captain Edward James Smith played by Bernard Hill
Before Titanic, the captain who went down with his ship had worked successfully on television, but his big break came when he played King Théoden in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
More recently he's gotten back to his television roots and worked on several TV mini-series including: From There to Here, Hope and Wire, and Wolf Hall.
He is married to Marianne, and the couple, who live in Suffolk, have a son named Gabriel.
In 2019 he received an honorary degree from the University of East Anglia.
Thomas Andrews played by Victor Garber
Breaking Bad cast now – Oscar nominations, health scares and penning thrillers
Victor Garber played Thomas Andrews, the creator of the great ship, Titanic.
He teamed up with the unsinkable Molly Brown, Kathy Bates, again for the 1999 remake of Annie.
He played Jack Bristow in Alias, which cultivated a relationship with Jennifer Garner, leading for him to be the officiant at her wedding to Ben Affleck and the godfather of their daughter Violet.
He keeps a very personal life and tends to stay out of the tabloids.
In 2012, he referred publicly to being gay, and in 2013, he said: "I don't really talk about it, but everybody knows."
He has been in a relationship with Canadian artist and model Rainer Andreesen since 2000.
On October 10, 2015, Andreesen announced on his Instagram page that he and Garber had got married in Canada.
Old Rose played by Gloria Stuart
Gloria Stuart's career as a stage and screen actor spanned over 70 years.
She portrayed an older Rose Dawson in the move, and at 87 years of age she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress – this made her the oldest person ever nominated for an acting role.
Her last film performance was in Wim Wenders' Land of Plenty in 2004.
She passed away from respiratory failure and lung cancer in 2010 at the age of 100.
