Airport workers amazed as dog is found in flyer’s hand luggage

Airport workers were given a shock when X-raying a woman's hand luggage and seeing the outline of a dog.

The woman was flying from Dane County Regional Airport (MSN) in Madison, Wisconsin, USA, and wanted to bring her pet – a Dachshund Chihuahua mix – with her.

As per Transportation Security Administration guidlines, she informed the airport she would be travelling with her pet, but didn't take the pooch out of her luggage as she sent it through security.

TSA Great Lakes shared an image of the backpack with the dog's outline on Twitter on Tuesday, December 6, saying: "A dog was accidentally sent through the X-ray @MSN_Airport this week.

"When traveling with any animal, notify your airline & know their rules. At the checkpoint, remove your pet from the bag and send all items, including the empty carrier, to be screened in the machine."

They then shared a video on how to properly travel with a pet. A spokeswoman said the agency shared the story in the hopes of reminding people about the rules and guidelines for traveling with animals at airports.

TSA spokesperson Jessica Mayle confirmed to USA TODAY that the dog was ok after its ordeal, "just a little skittish".

She said: "After (the dog) was discovered by the X-ray operator, the officer explained the proper process to the passenger and confirmed she had disclosed she was traveling with the pet to the airline. After her bags were cleared, she proceeded to her gate."

Animals should never be put through an X-ray tunnel, according to the TSA.

In November, a cat was found inside a traveller's checked luggage at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Again, the animals outline was picked up on the X-ray, while its fur was also seen poking out of the suitcase.
