Videos of Alexa translating phrases about Boris Johnson into Welsh have gone viral after they were shared on TikTok.

In the clips, people are asking their smart speaker devices to translate a series of English words with hilarious results insulting the Prime Minister.

One example was uploaded by TikTok user football_ben, who asks his Alexa to translate "Boris Johnson carrots coffee bean 100" into Welsh.

Much to the amusement of others on the app, the device obliges with a translation which sounds very similar to "Boris Johnson moron f**K off, ye c**t".

The word 'carrot' in Welsh is 'moron', 'coffee bean' means 'ffa coffi' and '100' is pronounced as 'cant', meaning that English speakers may hear something not too complimentary regarding the Tory leader, reports WalesOnline.

So far, the video has gathered more than 235,000 views and 4,700 comments. Some users revealed that they had also tried to do the same thing, while others shared their amusement over the translation.

In response to football_ben's video, one account said: "Yes I am a Welsh person and this is true."

Another one said: "I'm Welsh and proud. Even more so now."

WARNING, OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE:

A third person responded with: "I am crying and laughing – love this."

Someone else said: "When you said it my Alexa thought I was talking so it did it and my mum told me off."

Some suggested they should use Russian President Vladimir Putin instead of Boris Johnson, while others offered interesting translations from English to French.

For those who don't have an Alexa however, similar translation services are available with Siri on an iPhone and Google Translate.

Welsh-language music lovers will be aware that a similar gaffe was coined a long time ago thanks to Gruff Rhys' band, Ffa Coffi Pawb, which literally translates to 'Everyone's Coffee Beans', but a play on words may imply something else.
