Amazon is DOWN: Website crashes leaving thousands of Britons unable to checkout

Amazon is experiencing issues this afternoon, leaving Britons unable to checkout. 

According to Down Detector, the issues started at around 12:20 GMT and are affecting customers accross the UK. 

MailOnline tried to access the app and found that we were unable to complete at checkout. 

Instead, a holding page reads: ‘Sorry, we’re experiencing unusually heavy traffic. Please try again in a few seconds.’

So far, more than 3,659 issues have been logged on Down Detector. Of those who reported issues, 81 per cent said they were having problems at checkout, 10 per cent with the app, and nine per cent with the website

We were able browse the platform without trouble, but found that issues occurred when we attempted to complete at checkout. 

Several frustrated users have taken to Twitter to discuss the outage.

One user wrote: ‘Has anyone tried to buy through Amazon the last half an hour? I can’t seem to get through checkout. Keeps giving me error message and “we apologise for the inconvenience”.’

Another added: ‘Everytime I try to checkout either on amazon app or amazon fresh….keeps reporting this or an unexpected error. Even when clearing the cart.’

While Amazon is yet to comment on the issue, its help account has been replying to users tweeting about the issue. 

Replying one user, it advised: ‘We’re sorry for any difficulties you’re experiencing. Please try clearing your cache, cookies, and other common troubleshooting steps.’
