Police saw the funny side after a bloke who had been banged up for criminal damage left a TripAdvisor-style review of the cells.

The un-named suspect left his hilarious handwritten note at the custody suite in Perry Barr, Birmingham, and rated the facilities three stars out of five.

The 24-year-old was full of praise for the "modern, clean building" and noted with approval how he had been dealt with "promptly by a custody officer."

However, he expressed disappointment over the closure of his local station in Sutton Coldfield, West Mids, – but admitted it was "time to try something new".

West Midlands Police shared an image of the hilarious note on Wednesday, March 17, as something of a trailer for their plans to tweet every arrest from the station on this coming Friday.

They wrote: "#24HoursInCustody – Did you know? Some detainees have left us TripAdvisor style reviews!

"Another recently brought chocolates in to say thanks for the way he was treated.

"And in one of the more bizarre incidents, staff found a detainee with a samosa in his pants!"

"Police custody is an area of business that, thankfully, most people will never see or experience," they added.

"This will be an opportunity for people to see what goes on, how a large custody facility operates, and hear about every single arrest we make during in a day.”

The prisoner’s cheeky review reads: "Firstly I would just like to mention how disappointed I was to find out Sutton Coldfield no longer has a police station.

"After multiple visits there I had come a custom (sic) to the layout + friendly staff.

"Times change however and it was time to try something new.

"On arrival at Perry Barr I was impressed by how modern and clean the building looks. I was dealt with promptly by the custody officer."

Inspector Manj Ahir, from West Midlands Police Criminal Justice department, said: "We've had a few odd incidents.

"One that sticks in my mind was a man found with a samosa secreted between his buttocks during a search.

"He said he wanted to sneak it into the cell as a snack as he didn't think the food was up to much.

"He'd obviously not read our positive Trip Advisor reviews."
