Elon Musk has bizarrely changed the iconic logo of his social media platform Twitter to that of the Dogecoin dog in a move that users have slammed as a two-day-late April Fool’s prank.

Social media users noticed the change, which was seemingly made unannounced today (April 3), after they saw the Dogecoin dog in the top-right corner of their Twitter accounts instead of the blue bird.

Few were impressed by the billionaire’s apparently late April Fool’s Day prank.

One social media user said: “He changed the logo to the doge but couldn't even format it right. look at the pixels at the top of it. Come on man.”

Another wrote: “I think this might actually be what breaks me. It's just too embarrassing to post on Twitter if this is the logo.”

While social media users lambasted the tech billionaire, who is the world's second-richest person according to Forbes, for changing the logo, stockbrokers appeared to love the move.

The share price of Dogecoin massively shot up following the wacky change, rising by 25% in just half an hour after the change was seemingly made.

While Musk has not yet said anything publicly about the strange change, he has a long and bizarre history with the cryptocurrency.

He is currently involved in a $258 billion racketeering lawsuit accusing him of running a pyramid scheme to support the cryptocurrency, today asking a US judge to throw out the suit.

Investors have accused Musk of deliberately driving up Dogecoin's price more than 36,000% over two years and then letting it crash.

Dogecoin was set up as an internet joke by software engineers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer, but in recent years has been used as a legitimate investment.

The cryptocurrency bears the face of a Shiba Inu, which itself was an internet joke, on its logo.

In response to the Daily Star’s email request for comment, a poop emoji was sent back by an email associated with Twitter’s press office.
