Elon Musk gives support to ‘obvious move’ that would ‘solve’ world energy crisis

Elon Musk has expressed his support for an “obvious” solution to the world energy crisis.

The world’s second-richest man has been an outspoken player in many of the big conversations about the future of humanity.

He’s often spoken out about the war in Ukraine and has been one of the foremost architects in modern space exploration.

Now though he’s been weighing in on one of the biggest conversations facing the planet: How do we supply the globe with clean renewable energy?

Engaging in a conversation on his newest acquisition, Twitter, Musk responded to the tweet of a user who posted a map of north Africa with three red squares on it.

The post came with a caption: “The total area of solar panels it would take to power the world, Europe, and Germany.

“This map is from Nadine May’s thesis.“

The three red squares each represent the amount of space needed to power different areas, with one being Europe and another being the world.

The small boxes, in a relatively low-population area in the middle of the Sahara desert, would allegedly provide all of the energy needed to power the globe via solar power.

In response to the post with the map, Musk replied: “Such an obvious move!”

He then followed up: “Even solar plus batteries on a small section of Spain would solve EU energy needs.”

The conversation comes just weeks after plans announced to link the UK power grid to a solar farm in the Sahara desert were to be delayed due to political turmoil in Westminster.

The farm was due to be connected to the British Isles via an undersea cable.

Startup Xlinks is hoping to provide the UK with eight percent of its energy supply.

The aim had been to be online by 2027 and would see the UK connected to Morroco, however, this target now seems unlikely to be hit.
