A Twitter programmer has memed the Daily Star’s wet lettuce and challenged the vegetable to outlast his job at the social media company in light of Elon Musk’s takeover in a joke post.

The eccentric billionaire’s purchase of Twitter has sent shockwaves through a lot of the workforce with claims that up to half of the company’s workers could be laid off with some being remotely logged out already.

Writer and programmer Sheon Han, who works at Twitter, has poked fun at the situation with an edit putting his employee number up against the world-famous Daily Star lettuce to see what will last longer.

But with the resilient vegetable already outing former Prime Minister Liz Truss and boasting a fan base from Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer to Countdown star Rachel Riley, it has already proved to be a very tough wet leaf to beat.

Elon Musk himself previously described our stunt as a “pretty good troll” – but it remains to be seen how the SpaceX founder will react to the wilting lettuce with googly eyes turning its sights onto Twitter.

Others on the site warned Sheon to be “careful” due to the lettuce’s famous past performances stunning any doubters.

Another joked: “(You’re) taking on the British Prime Minister there so you have a good chance of winning.”

Whilst a third added: “The lettuce already set precedent but I'm rooting for you.”

Musk officially became owner of the micro-blogging website in October after a deal worth an eye-watering £40 billion.

The world's richest man had previously claimed that he wanted to slash Twitter's workforce from 7,500 to around 2,000 – and he appears to be doing that sooner rather than later.
