A single film frame from Alien Autopsy is going to auction with bids starting at $1 million (£700,000).

The black and white image shows a humanoid figure which a filmmaker claims to be a real extraterrestrial corpse lying on a medical examiner's table.

It was taken from a UFO that crashed at Roswell, New Mexico in 1947 and then secretly dissected by the US government.

The 17-minute footage was first broadcast in the United States on August 28, 1995, by Fox television under the title "Alien Autopsy: Fact or Fiction".

Brit Ray Santilli who is selling the frame at auction after acquiring it from a U.S. military cameraman in 1992, said: "I have lived with this film and the story surrounding it for 30 years.

"When I first saw the CIA papers with their verification of the Roswell event and Alien Autopsy film, a massive weight was lifted from my shoulders.

"I believe the technology we enjoy today started in 1947 with the Roswell crash and that the NFT and single film frame being offered is by far one of the most valuable items to even come up in auction."

In the frame, the new owner will spot the alleged has a wounded right leg, a massive bald head, and rounded belly, Live Science reports.

Surrounding it are supposed scientists dressed in protective white suits.

Santilli admitted in 2006 that the film broadcast on TV was just a staged reconstruction of footage he had viewed earlier but was no longer usable – other than a few frames.

As well as a physical frame of the autopsy film, a string of unique code will be given to the highest bidder, verifying the film frame's authenticity.

Auction site Rarible says of the item: "The debate over the existence of extraterrestrial life was settled when the CIA authenticated the most famous piece of UAP evidence, the Alien Autopsy film. Now for the first time ever, a piece of that history is available to own."

UK UFO researcher and Flying Disk publisher, Philip Mantle blasted anyone who forks out $1 million for the frame, must be foolish.

Philip said: "Just when you think you've seen and heard it all when it comes to the alien autopsy film hoax something else pops up to surprise you. Now, the film's promoter, London businessman Ray Santilli claims to be selling a frame of the 'original' film.

"Once you've bought this frame of film Ray Santilli will provide you with official CIA documentation proving its authenticity.

"Surely there can't be anyone foolish enough to purchase this?

"I spent decades researching this fake film and published everything in my book 'Roswell Alien Autopsy' which in turn was made into a 4-part documentary series entitled 'Alien Autopsy – The Search For Answers'. The facts are that this film is indeed 100% fake."
