A pair of football fans of opposing teams took an ongoing bet to extreme levels when the loser had to parade through their city on a leash, like a dog.

Instead of usual bets involving money, Marco Coreño and Erick Muñoz agreed the loser would be crawl around the busy streets of a Mexico city, and post the footage it on social media.

As if it wasn't bad enough that Marco's team, Cruz Azul, lost seven nil to Liga MX rivals, Club America, he then had to suffer the humiliation which, with a number of media outlets also picking up on the video, also saw the witnesses to the forfeit skyrocket.

This wasn't the first time the fans of the top Mexican soccer division teams made this bet, which saw the roles reversed and Muñoz donning the leash to crawl through the Mexican capital a couple of years ago.

After Coreño's team were drubbed, the pals made their way to one of the busy streets so he could hold up his end of the bet and crawled down the block as bystanders looked on in amazement.

If that wasn't enough, Coreño also had to have his head shaved.

Speaking to Daily Mail by phone, Coreño said: "We had already given our words.

"We are men and we pay up.

"We weren't going to back down."

Muñoz said: "We have always been making it clear that our bets lose or win, our friendship will always be the same because now I beat him and he complied just as I did with him."

Cruz Azul and Club America are not scheduled to meet again during the regular season and could only face each other once the Liga MX playoffs come around.

“Next time we'll see what happens. There will be a revenge (bet) because there will be one,” Coreño said.

“He already knows. From the beginning we agreed to keep on until we got bored.

"Until we say, 'That's it, well, we've already humiliated ourselves many times and that's how he's going to end.' But at the moment the bets are still going forward.”
