Google Maps sleuth discovers ‘Kraken’ in horrifying online image

A Google Maps user has discovered what they think might be a 'kraken' in a horrifying find.

The online sleuth uploaded the disturbing image to Reddit of what appears to be a large sea creature.

The original poster is unsure whether they are looking at a whale, kraken or cthulhu.

A kraken is a sea monster from Greek mythology which reportedly possessed tremendous size and strength, while a cthulhu was a fictional entity built like a giant octopus which lived below the Pacific Ocean.

The poster said: "I'm not familiar with how Google decides to render certain objects via satellite or whether there have been cases of recorded volcanic disturbances but this does not appear to be any sort of vessel and it's sheer length rivals the maximum recorded blue whale.

"Let me know what you guys think it is!"

The post was filled with a slew of comments from curious people putting their own theories forward.

One said: "I've also done some research over the last few years and according to satellite images this wasn't around in 1800s or even for a long period of time after that."

Another posters suggested the image just shows a rock, while others poked fun at the OP for his phone running out of battery.

One more internet user agreed, writing: "Apparently it's a rock.

"The only one shooting straight up out of the open ocean and lasted 1000s of years. Also Wikipedia created a cover up on their site for it.

"Trying to explain the rock theory."

"Looks like giant squid v sperm whale," another quipped.
