Inbetweeners-themed bus seized after driving through town with cheeky message

An Inbetweeners-themed bus was seized by police after driving through a town emblazoned with an X-rated message.

The LED sign that would normally indicate the bus's route number and destination but had been replaced with "bus *******" – a favourite catchphrase from the cult E4 show.

However, this caught the attention of officers in Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire, who stopped the privately-owned vehicle and found the driver only had a provisional licence and no proof of insurance.

The intended insult was directed at people waiting at bus stops during episodes of The Inbetweeners by Jay Cartwright, played by James Buckley, as he leant out of the window of a yellow Metro, driven by his sixth-form friend Simon, played by Joe Cooper.

In one episode, Simon was throttled by an angry, muscular bus user after their car subsequently got stuck in traffic and the slogan also helped land this motorist in a spot of bother too!

Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit's official Twitter account recounted the incident in a 2.14am post during the early hours of this morning, which was also accompanied with a photograph of the bus.

The tweet read: "RP31 – Wheathampstead, Herts. This privately owned bus drew our attention around midnight for its Inbetweeners themed message on the matrix."

The Inbetweeners was a British coming-of-age television teen sitcom, which originally aired on E4 from 2008 until 2010.

The series follows the misadventures of suburban teenager William McKenzie and his friends Simon Cooper, Neil Sutherland and Jay Cartwright.
