Mystery over huge marriage proposal spray-painted on shop window by 82-year-old

People have been left perplexed by a mysterious wedding proposal that appeared on an empty shop window that was apparently written by a pensioner.

The message, written in bold black paint on whitewashed windows, reads: "Lauren Marry Me? Ralph Age 82."

It appeared near North Hill Roundabout in Plymouth where confused locals have been stopping to take photos of the shop front, with some branding the proposal 'cute'.

It would appear that Ralph certainly wanted to make Lauren feel special as the huge writing spans across the two large window panes as well as the shops' doors, reports PlymouthLive.

Reacting to the images online, not everyone was gushing with praise for Ralph and his unique way of popping the question.

One person wrote: "Perhaps when she says yes – they can both get a bucket and mop and clean the graffiti!"

Another said: "PR STUNT. VANDALISM."

Others suggested the message was just a prank, pointing to the names "Ralph" and "Lauren" and to the fact that the American fashion designer Ralph Lauren is also 82 like the mystery proposer.

The shop itself is actually set to be renovated, meaning that Ralph has given its new owners a major cleaning up job.

The unit is a former Connells Estate Agents, next to The Box. It is set to become a trendy London bar Grow this year with 'ecosystem' studios, event spaces, a bar and a kitchen.

After having success in Hackney, the business decided to bring a location to the ocean city, but an opening date is yet to be confirmed.

Information on the Grow, Plymouth website reads: "Grow, Plymouth will be an independent ecosystem of studios and event spaces with bar & kitchen, based in the cultural quarter of Plymouth.

"Opening in 2022, expect a collective approach with a focus on sustainability and grassroots arts/culture. We welcome ideas for collaborations and how best to serve the community."
