The streets of an Indonesian village flowed with blood-red water this weekend in what a doomsday preacher says was the fulfilment of an "apocalyptic" prophecy.

Alarming photos of the inhabitants of Jenggot wading through the crimson water spread quickly on social media.

However, there's an innocent enough explanation. Jenggot is located just south of Pekalongan, a city known for manufacturing batik – a bright red dye.

Recent heavy rain-induced flooding, which pushed the dyed water south into the streets of Jenggot.

"It will disappear when it mixes with rain after a while," head of Pekalongan disaster relief Dimas Arga Yudha told local media.

But one person not taking the news so calmly is Pastor Paul Begley.

The evangelical YouTuber has attracted a massive following for his regular online sermons in which he discusses global events through a Biblical lens.

He's become notorious for routinely predicting the end of the world — which has yet to come to pass —but that hasn't stopped him from interpreting the Indonesian flood as "fulfilling prophecy" about Judgement Day.

"We've got apocalyptic stuff happening all over the world," he told his 340,000 followers in a live broadcast on Sunday.

"The water's turning blood red, we got glaciers breaking off in the Himalayas causing massive floods, landslides, avalanches, blowing out dams."

Later in the almost two-hour-long video, he continued: "The water did turn blood red in Indonesia, and that is crazy.

"There was a massive, massive flood that caused the water to turn bright red.

"But it's not because it was a miracle, but because one of the factories where they make garments, red dyes got into the water.

"And so this entire town is flooded, the area's flooded, and the water is blood red.

"It's very eerie, very scary. It comes right off the pages of the Bible.

"It wasn't a God phenomenon, it was a man-made disaster but fulfilling prophecy as the water is turning blood red.

"So keep that in mind guys, that is an incredible situation in Indonesia."

Pastor Paul's fans seem just as certain as he is that the world is showing signs that the end is nigh.

"All of this means that we are so close to the Rapture of the church!!" one commented on his Sunday video.

"Jesus Christ is coming quickly," another said.
