Russian seaman’s hand torn off on ‘Lady of Luck’ boat in horror at-sea incident

A Russian seaman has had his hand brutally torn off after getting into an accident during a sea voyage on a cargo ship.

Evgenii Kriukov, 47, now only has one hand after the unfortunate accident off the coast of Songkhla, Thailand.

It has not been detailed exactly how he came to lose the hand, but a Facebook post from the Maritime National Interest Administration Centre in Sor Chon showed the poor bloke after emergency surgery.

He was taken from the ship he was on to the Songkhla Naval Base Hospital and was conscious at the time of the emergency operation.

The ship he was on was, ironically, called Lady of Luck, and was around 75 nautical miles away from a safe water buoy zone at the time of the chaotic situation.

He was taken to shore by a nearby ship, after Rear Admiral Jaratkiat Chaipan, director of the Thailand Maritime Enforcement Centre Region Two, ordered the Phuket Royal Navy to help Evgenii after being alerted to the incident.

He was saved by the HTMS Phuket, which was ordered to leave the Songkhla naval base with a team of doctors and nurses.

The ship was registered to a Panama-based cargo company, but apparently hires Russians and other local naval men as part of its team.

And, in a shocking twist, the accident took place shortly before a ship nearby sank with four crew members on board.

According to local news reports, the four men survived and were rescued by others nearby, the Krabi Port Security Control Centre said.

The boat ran into trouble at around 4am last night (November 27) and sank after unloading whatever goods were on-board to Kho Phi Phi.

It was on its way back to Phuket when it happened, although it is not clear exactly what caused it to sink.
