Space radio signals could be ‘used by alien military’ and show we’re not alone

Space radio signals could be the sign of massive alien cargos and show we’re not alone in the universe, an expert has claimed.

Harvard astronomer Professor Avi Loeb reckons Fast Radio Bursts (FRB) could also be used for "military purposes".

The bursts can last as short as a fraction of a millisecond and are believed to travel to Earth from other galaxies.

A new telescope in British Columbia, Canada has now picked up hundreds of the radio bursts from space, according to the Telegraph.

Experts say the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME) programme has detected 535 between 2018 and 2019.

They claim that before the project, there were fewer than 100 total bursts that had been discovered.

It comes ahead of a highly-anticipated report into UFOs by the US government.

The signals have been picked up in distant parts of the universe, along with our own galaxy.

Kaitlyn Shin, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said they can help explain "what astrophysics might be driving these events and how they can be used to study the universe".

Prof Loeb believes aliens might be behind the signals and claims it is "arrogant to think we're alone in the universe".

He wrote in the journal American Scientist: "It's a long shot, but could at least some of these energy blasts from across the universe come from extraterrestrial civilisations?"

The professor said an "advanced civilisation" would not try to communicate across cosmological distances, as it would take "billions of years" to receive a reply.

He said: "Instead, a powerful radio beam could be used for military purposes or might be generated to push a light sail and launch a massive cargo close to the speed of light.

"This sounds like an unrealistic ambition for our own civilisation.

"But despite what many of us might have heard from our parents, we might not be the smartest kids on the block after all."

Former US President Barack Obama recently predicted if evidence of aliens emerges, it will lead to sweeping changes around our planet and new religions.

Meanwhile, Britain’s top alien hunter Nick Pope reckons the world has been blitzed by UFOs but it has been hushed up.

He believes multiple leaks of military-shot videos showing craft off the west coast of the US were "just the tip of the iceberg".
