A bloke who spent his savings on buying a new Apple MacBook got a strange surprise when his delivery arrived.

Yoshihito Kamogari, a student at the University of East Anglia, had ordered the new tech using savings earned while working at a local Japanese restaurant.

And having made the purchase via online shopping giants Amazon, he waited eagerly for it to arrive.

But the 20-year-old was left disappointed and confused when a parcel arrived earlier this month (November 18) only to find that it was two boxes of Weetabix – not a new Apple MacBook.

Sadly, the man had planned to use the cash he ended up spending on the laptop to go home to Japan for Christmas, but decided to buy the item after realising flights to his homeland were too expensive, the Argus reports.

He said: “When I opened the package and there were just two boxes of Weetabix my heart sank.

“I was gutted., so I contacted Amazon straight away but they just froze my account.

“I have no idea what's going on – I think I have been scammed.”

The laptop cost £1,399 in total, but Mr Kamogari had signed up for monthly payments of £279.

However, despite only making the first payment so far, he has not been able to cancel the direct debit because of the freeze on his Amazon account.

A friend told local news outlets: “This has been so stressful for him.

“Amazon didn’t explain what happened and they assumed there was some violation of policy and they froze his account so he couldn’t contact anyone at all.

“The bank said they can't cancel his direct debit because it depends on Amazon.

“I'm trying to gather as much information as possible to help him get out of this horrible mess.”

An Amazon spokesman said that they have launched an “urgent investigation” into the confusing incident.
