The Simpsons ‘predicted Kamala Harris becoming Vice President’ 21 years ago

Fans of The Simpsons are convinced the show predicted Kamala Harris would become Vice President.

Eagle-eyed viewers say her outfit at US President Joe Biden’s inauguration was identical to one worn by Lisa Simpson in an old episode.

And it even guessed billionaire businessman Donald Trump would become US President – an idea which would have seemed far-fetched at the time.

The 2000 episode, called Bart to the Future, depicts Lisa as President of the US.

She is seen wearing a purple pant suit with a string of white pearls around her neck.

The cartoon character even complains that the country inherited “quite a budget crunch” from former president Mr Trump.

During Wednesday’s inauguration, the Vice President wore a coat and dress in a similar shade of purple – and even wore a pearl necklace.

One fan tweeted: “The Simpsons have done it once again. I think it is safe to say Lisa Simpson predicted Kamala Harris's inauguration outfit.”

Another posted: “Kamala Harris really is Lisa Simpson and I’m all for it.”

While one social media user joked: “How do we know that Kamala Harris didn’t just copy The Simpsons?”

The comedy series, which has been running since 1990, has developed a reputation for anticipating future events.

Previous predictions which have come true include the winner of the Super Bowl, the 2014 Ebola outbreak, video chats, smart watches and Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl performance.

Fans have also claimed the show predicted the US Capitol riot earlier this month.

In a Treehouse of Horror episode aired last November, buildings burn and rioters storm the streets of Springfield after Homer Simpson forgot to vote in the US election, with his one being the decider.

The episode shows him wake up the night after failing to cast his ballot and say: "Hey, how bad can it be?"

It then flashes forward to January 20, 2021, Inauguration Day, which is in the middle of an apocalypse.

Fans were convinced it struck an uncanny resemblance to the carnage earlier this month.

Viewers are also convinced the show predicted the coronavirus outbreak back in 1993.
