Nick Pope, who investigated UFO sightings for the British Government in the 1990s, is paying very close attention to the looming Pentagon report. The document is set to reveal what US intelligence services know about so-called UAP’s or unidentified aerial phenomena – an official label attached to UFOs. People all across America have been reporting UFO sightings for decades but the issue will now be brought before the US Congress in an official capacity.

The Pentagon report is expected to deal with UFO sightings made by US military personnel, including footage of unidentified “strange craft”.

A number of verified leaks in recent years have sparked renewed interest in the UFO phenomena, with the Pentagon declassifying three of the videos only last year.

Many people believe the report will shed new light on the possibility of aliens being here among us, while others believe this is a matter of national defence and security.

Mr Pope is among those who believe extraterrestrial life exists somewhere out there among the stars but is hesitant to say aliens have visited our planet.

The UFO expert appeared on Australia’s breakfast news show Sunrise on 7News, where he was grilled about his insider knowledge and the Pentagon report.

Asked whether he believes in aliens himself, Mr Pope said: “Well I’m sure that there’s life out there.

“Whether or not we’re being visited, I don’t know, but maybe, just maybe, we’re about to get some answers on that.

“I mean, this is unprecedented in the United States now.

“Former Presidents, CEO Directors, Directors of National Intelligence, all taking it seriously.

UFOs 'need to be discussed' says Jeremy Corbell

“Whatever we are dealing with, there’s a realisation it’s a serious defence and national security issue.”

Former President Barack Obama has so far spoken about the report, telling The Late Late Show with James Corden video footage exists of objects “that we don’t know exactly what they are”.

He said: “We can’t explain how they moved, their trajectory. They did not have an easily explainable pattern.

“And so, you know, I think that people still take seriously trying to investigate and figure out what that is.”

The Pentagon report is due to be released in June after a provision to have it published was sneaked into a Covid relief bill earlier this year.

There is, of course, no guarantee the Pentagon report will find evidence of extraterrestrial activity here on Earth.

Some pundits believe the UFO tapes published by the Pentagon might instead shed more light on foreign technology used to spy on the US.

Mr Pope said: “I think this is all still to be determined.

“This report that’s going to Congress, is going to be a proper intelligence analysis of the phenomenon.

“So yes, those three videos, but everything else that has happened that they haven’t been telling you about.

“There’s been some interesting leaks. Apparently, the idea that it’s aliens has not been discounted.”

The expert went to say some of the report’s juiciest findings might remain buried within the report in a classified annexe.

Mr Pope has previously told Express.co.uk the discovery of alien life is a matter of time.
