On Wednesday, several members of Congress were given a briefing behind closed doors on an anticipated report compiled by the Pentagon. The report, which will share details of UFO sightings captured for over 20 years, is scheduled to be released before June 25.

Speaking to TMZ just one day before the briefing, Republican Congressman Tim Burchett, said: “Clearly, something’s going on that we can’t handle.”

Last week Luis Elizondo, the former director of the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, said Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (the military’s name for UFOs) posed a serious threat.

In an interview with the Washington Post, he warned the phenomena are capable of turning “nuclear capabilities” on and off.

“In this country we’ve had incidents where these UAPs have interfered and actually brought offline our nuclear capabilities,” he said.

“We also have data suggesting that in other countries these things have interfered with their nuclear technology and actually turned them on, put them online.”

Experts have been speculating on the contents of the anticipated report for over a month but have warned there may be aspects of the document that will remain classified for security and counterintelligence reasons.

Alleged footage of UFOs has been circulating online for years but US lawmakers have been divided on whether to take the phenomena seriously.

Democratic Congressman, Sean Patrick Maloney told the New York Post: “We take the issue of unexplained aerial phenomena seriously to the extent that we’re dealing with the safety and security of US military personnel or the national security interests of the United States, so we want to know what we’re dealing with.

“I think it’s important to understand that there are legitimate questions involving the safety and security of our personnel, and in our operations and in our sensitive activities, and we all know that there’s [a] proliferation of technologies out there.

“We need to understand the space a little bit better.”

One theory that might explain the phenomena suggests the objects could be advanced military Chinese or Russian aircraft.

However, critics have pointed out that the objects are able to travel in ways that defy the laws of physics pointing to an extraterrestrial solution.

Mr Burchett thought it was “ridiculous” to think UFOs could be advanced Russian or Chinese tech.

“If the Russians had UFO technology, they would own us right now.

“They used to say, they’ve heard people talk about how the Nazis had it in the Second World War — if they did, they would have won.

“That is ridiculous. It has to be something that’s out of our galaxy, it just has to be, if it is in fact real.”
