Wetherspoons fans hit back at comic fed-up at being tagged in pub complaints

Angry Brits have jumped to defend Wetherspoons after it was mocked by an American stand-up.

Funnyman J.D. Witherspoon said he gets irate customers from the budget boozers contact him because of their similar names.

He has even had to put ‘Not the UK pub chain’ in his Twitter bio to try and stop them. The 23-year-old, whose full name is John David Witherspoon Jr, got slammed by loyal Spoons fans for his blistering attack.

US comic J.D. Witherspoon said: “There is a pub in the UK called J D Wetherspoon.

“So it’s the same name as mine, except it’s off by like one letter. So it’s an ‘e’ instead of an ‘I’.

“And they have like the worst f***ing reviews ever. But they have no social media presence. “They deleted that at s*** ty review number 208.”

He added in his stand-up routine which he shared on TikTok: “So guess who has the Twitter account that gets bombarded by dumb ass British people every other day?

“They will find me on Twitter. See my f***ing face in my Twitter profile and still be like ‘Let’s get into this…”

Emma McKenzie said: “No way man we love Spoons.”

One said: “Wetherspoons isn’t just A pub, it’s the biggest chain in UK.

“Vast majority are cheap low end pubs but deep down everyone loves them.”

Another added: “I was in there a few months ago, only £2.50 a pint.

“Keep up the good work as far as I’m concerned.”

A fourth said: “Spoons is awesome. You can get a pint for 99p.”

Others jumped on J.D. Witherspoon for underestimating the might of Wetherspoons.

One said: “A pub? there’s 900.”

Craig Foxall echoed this and said: “Over 900 pubs are part of Wetherspoons.”

Others ironically messaged him as if he was the pub chain.

Bridget Jennison joked: “Hey man, why do you put your toilets two miles from the bar?

Another quipped: “Trying to find the toilets is like going on a quest to Mordor.”

J.D. Witherspoon is the son of late Friday series actor, John Witherspoon, who died in 2019, at the age of 77.

Wetherspoons has been approached for comment.
