A woman has alleged that she has made a horrifying discovery – the gynaecologist she had been seeing for nine years was her biological father.

35-year-old Morgan Hellquist has filed a lawsuit alleging medical malpractice and reckons 70-year-old practicing gynaecologist Morris Wortman is her dad.

She has said she was conceived via artificial insemination and Wortman was the doctor who facilitated the impregnation of her mum, reports the Mirror.

Hellquist’s parents are said to have originally believed that the sperm was from a medical student.

During an appointment in April, she began to wonder if Wortman, who works at The Center of Menstrual Disorders in Rochester, New York, could be her real dad.

According to the Washington Post, the lawsuit claims that Wortman invited his wife into one of Hellquist's vaginal ultrasounds to meet her and look at her face.

Wortman then allegedly said: "You’re really a good kid, such a good kid."

In the following months, a DNA test suggested Wortman was Hellquist's biological father.

Hellquist, who was born in September 1985, was "in shock and disbelief that he would continue [to] treat her as her gynaecologist if she were his biological daughter", according to the lawsuit.

Her mother underwent artificial insemination in the early 1980s with her father paralysed from the waist down after a drunk driver hit him.

The family requested the donor have a clean medical history as well as be of northern European heritage.

Hellquist's mum became pregnant in 1985 after several failed insemination attempts.

She found out about her artificial conception in 1993 whilst her parents still had Wortman as their doctor. Hellquist too maintained an affinity with the family's doctor, with Wortman later becoming her gynaecologist.

The lawsuit also claims that that the search for her dad resulted in the discovery of six half-siblings.

The DNA test that suggested she was Wortman's daughter came from a half-brother who had been in touch with one of Wortman's known daughters. It found there was a 99.99% chance they were siblings.

Hellquist said she could "never consent to being a patient at his gynaecology practise" if she knew he was her father, according to the lawsuit.

She is suing Wortman for medical malpractice, lack of informed consent, battery, fraud, negligence and infliction of emotional distress.
