Zoom filter traps lawyer as cute kitten during live court hearing

A lawyer using Zoom for a virtual court hearing had a nightmare when his face got stuck on cat filter mode – with the hilarious video quickly going viral on social media.

The footage, shared on Twitter by Judge Roy Ferguson who was presiding over the hearing in the 394th Judicial District Court in Texas, shows the lawyer apologise while appearing on the screen as a fragile and sad-looking kitten.

In the clip, attorney Rod Ponton, the kitten in the caper, sounds worried and admits he has no idea what to do.

He says: "We’re trying to – can you hear me judge?"

"I can hear you… I think it’s a filter," replies Judge Ferguson.

Mr Ponton says: "It is – I don’t know how to remove it.

"I’ve got my assistant here and she’s trying to… I’m prepared to go forward with it. I’m here live. I’m not a cat."

The clip then ends, with it not being clear if the filter was successfully removed

Judge Ferguson later tweeted out the hilarious video after it was uploaded by the court itself on YouTube on Tuesday (February 9).

He said: "If a child used your computer before you join a virtual hearing check the Zoom Video Options to be sure filters are off.

"This kitten just made a formal announcement on a case in the 394th (sound on)."

Reassuring everyone that it was lighthearted, he added: "These fun moments are a by-product of the legal profession's dedication to ensuring that the justice system continues to function in these tough times.

"Everyone involved handled it with dignity, and the filtered lawyer showed incredible grace.

"True professionalism all around!"

One person commented on YouTube: "This can't be real. Is this real? I love it. thank you for sharing."

A second person gushed: "This has literally been the best thing I have seen in a very long while. Thank you so much for sharing."

"I'm literally crying with laughter at the sheer emotion in those kitty's eyes," commented a third viewer.
