As British Airways cancels 50 flights as Beast from the East approaches – which other airlines are disrupted?

UK and Irish passengers are facing a barrage of flight cancellations after a Siberian snowstorm started sweeping the country.

The “Beast from the East” has brought heavy snow to the UK – with British Airways announcing that 54 flights have been cancelled across the UK and Ireland, including 36 from Heathrow alone.

Cancellations include services to Los Angeles and New York from Heathrow due to the weather.

Flights from Gatwick to Vienna and Jersey have also been cancelled.

Flights into Heathrow from cities including Newcastle and Dublin have been cancelled too.

A number of other airlines have announced cancellations out of Heathrow.

These include American Airlines, Iberia Airlines, Japan Airlines and Aer Lingus.

The cancelled flights from Heathrow on these airlines are to destinations across Europe as well as the UK and look set to rise.

Destinations affected by cancelled flights out of Heathrow on these airlines include Munich, Stockholm, Brussels, Frankfurt and Geneva.

If you're meant to be flying today or in the next few days it's best to check directly with the airline you're flying with as to whether you'll face a cancellation or severe delay.

A statement from BA reads: “We are sorry that the weather is likely to lead to some delays and disruption to our schedules.

“We have proactively cancelled some services and will be re-booking customers on to alternative flights or offering them a full refund if they no longer wish to travel.

“We are sorry for the disruption to your travel plans and are doing all we can to minimise the effect the poor weather is having on flights.”

“We advise all passengers to keep up to date with traffic and transport updates, allow extra time for their travel and plan their journey to and from the airport accordingly.”

Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and City have yet to issue warnings regarding travel.
