Behind the scenes in a Caribbean paradise: BBC Two’s Amazing Hotels show reveals the hard work that goes into creating dream stays at St Lucia’s ‘lost city-style’ Jade Mountain resort
- Monica Galetti and Giles Coren go behind the scenes at the luxury hotel, where rooms cost up to £2,700pn
- All 29 rooms have a private infinity pool and all are devoid of an outer wall, guaranteeing epic views
- Giles describes the hotel as a ‘different world… a lost city, like Jurassic Park or something out of Tarzan’
Life for guests at the Jade Mountain resort in St Lucia is sheer paradise – but it’s not easy creating hotel heaven, as presenters Monica Galetti and Giles Coren discover in the latest episode of Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby.
The hotel was built by hand on the side of a cliff and all 29 rooms have a private infinity pool and are devoid of an outer wall. This guarantees delicious views of the ocean and the dramatic volcanic mountains beyond – the Pitons.
Monica and Giles are gobsmacked as they approach the hotel and begin to explore it, with Giles describing the hotel as a ‘different world… a lost city, like Jurassic Park or something out of Tarzan’.

When Monica is shown her room, she is momentarily lost for words, but settles on ‘paradise’ when she finds her voice.
She reveals that the ‘blurring of indoor and out is perfectly comfortable thanks to average temperatures of 30C’.
And she adds: ‘It’s like someone has painted the scenery across my hotel room.’
Giles, meanwhile, is similarly impressed with his chambers, describing the view as ‘amazing… offering unparalleled views of lush Caribbean scenery and the Piton mountains’.
The interior, he says, has something of the ‘Goldfinger lair’ about it.
However, the pair don’t have long to relax, they’re soon put to work with the staff to discover what it takes to keep guests paying up to £2,700 a night happy.

Giles’s first task is to try his hand at room service, but things get off to a wobbly start when he tries to carry a tray of mimosas, bottled water and cheese on his shoulder. The weight takes him by surprise and the glasses promptly fall over.
He’s told that butlers at Jade Mountain can receive requests every minute.
Giles and Monica also try their hand at waiting on beachgoers with cocktails, cleaning the private pools (with the aid of a snorkel), raking leaves, flower arranging and dive for lionfish which they both serve to guests visiting especially to have their wedding on the beach.
