Boost for holidaymakers as Greece relaxes Covid rules for holidaymakers from today – and it even affects flights

IF you're heading to Greece soon, there is some great news as more Covid rules have been scrapped.

From today, face masks are no longer have to be worn on planes.

The rule change follows the announcement from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) that dropped mandatory mask-wearing.

But rules for wearing masks vary after the mandatory requirement was lifted, with airlines told to encourage passengers to use masks on flights to or from destinations where wearing a mask on public transport is still required.

This includes Spain, which is yet to scrap face masks on planes.

And masks must still be worn in Greece in hospitals and urban transport such as "buses, metro and tram," Greece's Health Minister Thanos Plevris said in a televised message.

Other rules have also been lifted across Greece.

In early March, Greece lifted a requirement that masks be worn in restaurants, bars and night entertainment establishments.

Last month, Greece scrapped Passenger Locator Forms, making it easier for Brits to travel to the country.

And since May 1, Brits no longer needed to show proof of vaccination or negative Covid tests to enter Greece.

The UK government website states: “The Greek Government has confirmed that from May 1, travellers arriving from the UK, USA and European Union countries are exempt from the requirement to show a vaccine certificate, proof of a negative test, or a certificate of recovery from Covid to enter Greece.”

And it seems like Brits are returning to Greece in their numbers ahead of the summer season.

The Greek Aviation Service (CAA) revealed that more than 99,000 flights have operated in Greece this year already.

And the number of passengers registered in the first months of 2019 stood at a total of 10.3 million – 2.2 million fewer passengers compared to 2022 figures.
