Disneyland will reopen its gates to the public on April 30, more than a year after its initial closure due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“Magic is finally returning to the Disneyland Resort theme parks,” Disney said in a blog post. “Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park are planning to officially reopen to the public on April 30, with limited capacity.”
Theme parks, including Disneyland, are allowed to open at 15% capacity while in the red tier, the second-highest risk level, but only California residents will be allowed to buy tickets.
Because capacity will be limited, Disneyland Resort will manage attendance numbers on a new “theme park reservation system” requiring all visitors to make a reservation for entry ahead of time, according to the post.

Visitors will be able to experience fan favorite attractions such as “Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance” or the “Incredicoaster” and will also have access to “new magic” including “Snow White’s Enchanted Wish” which will open to guests for the first time on April 30.
Disney CEO Bob Chapek said he was he was “absolutely thrilled’’ to announce the reopening date.
“It’s been a long, long time since we’ve been able to create magic for our guests and put our cast members back to work and help the associated businesses around around the Anaheim area that greatly depend on Disneyland for their livelihood,’’ he said in an interview on CNBC. “It’s going to be a great opportunity for us to bring that magic back to everybody involved.’’
Chapek said the while state’s reopening rules allow for 15 percent of “fire code” capacity, Disney never operates at full fire code capacity. He did not specify how many guests will initially be allowed per day at the parks or discuss ticket prices.
He said demand for Disney trips has been strong since the company began reopening parks and that he expects the same for Disneyland.
“We’ve been operating at Walt Disney World now for about nine months. There is certainly no shortage of demand,’’ he said. “As people become vaccinated, they become a little bit more confident in the fact that they can travel and stay COVID-free. That’s showing up in our intent to visit our parks.’’
He said Disney has proven it can reopen responsibly, pointing to temperature checks, mask requirements, social distancing and other hygiene measures.
