EATING an in-flight meal is a Marmite experience – you either love it or hate it.
But to make it worse for the haters, flight attendants have now revealed why it could also be unhygienic.
Because the tray tables we use to place our meals on are also covered with germs.
In a thread on Reddit, one cabin crew member revealed the number of things they've seen on the tray tables that are not fit for human consumption, as they warned passengers about the issue.
They wrote: “The tray tables are gross.
"Can’t even remember how many times I’ve seen babies changed on them, puke on them, people bleed on them…

"They’re supposed to be cleaned nightly, but I wouldn’t put food directly on them. Nope nope nope!”
Other flight attendants have shared similar experiences too, while Skyscanner once found the tray tables to be the dirtiest place on a plane.
The advice from this former flight attendant was to bring anti bacterial wipes or sanitiser and clean the tray table, because the cabin crew often won't have time.
They wrote on Reddit: "If you're flying short haul, definitely bring antibac wipes or sanitiser.

“A lot of airlines will have the crew 'turnaround' the plane, meaning they pick up your rubbish, fold your seatbelt over, file your magazines in the seat pocket and then welcome new passengers.
“I have lost count of the amount of times I have had to tell people how disgusting it is to change their baby on the tray table or in a seat.”
The tray tables are not the only place you should be cleaning before you sit down.
Cabin crew member Linda Ferguson, who worked on airlines for 24 years, said the window was also filthy, as passengers regularly cough and sneeze against the surface.
Linda advised against leaning on the plane window unless you clean it thoroughly.
She told Readers Digest: "I see plenty of people carry Lysol wipes with them that will wipe the area around their seat.
“If there was a backlight and they could light up a plane with all the germs, I think it would petrify everybody.
“My rule of thumb, and I never get sick, is I never put my hands in my mouth or near my face."
