France hols could be off until October as Covid expert warns of FOURTH Covid wave

BRITS hoping for a holiday to France may find it off the cards until October, due to a feared fourth wave.

The French government's leading scientific adviser Professor Jean-Francois Delfraissy warned that cases of the Delta variant are increasing in the country.

He predicted a fourth wave in France in September and October – which could see restrictions for Brits continue.

He told local radio that the new variant, which currently makes up 20 per cent of cases, is to become "progressively dominant," while France's vaccine rollout is currently at just 32 per cent of the population.

Professor Delfraissy told France Info radio: "I think we will have a fourth wave, but it will be much more moderate than the previous three waves because the level of vaccinations is different compared to before."

The current rules only allow Brits into the country if they are fully vaccinated, and must have an antigen test.

Brits with no jabs or just one jab are still banned from travelling to France unless they have an essential reason.

However, Professor Delfraissy also warned against stopping Brits into the country due to the Delta variant, due to it's current prevalence.

He said: "It’s already too late. The Indian variant is already present in France."

France is one of the most popular holiday destinations for British holidaymakers, with many families opting to drive or use the Eurotunnel.

Many families also head to Disneyland Paris, which recently reopened to tourists.

However, France remains on the UK's amber list which requires a mandatory quarantine when returning to the country.

Only Malta, Madeira and the Balearic Islands were added to the green list this week, along with other destinations Gibraltar, Israel, Iceland.

Mainland Portugal was taken off in recent weeks, while popular destinations Greece and Italy are yet to be added.

Many countries are also introducing new rules for UK arrivals.

Both Malta and Portugal are only allowing in Brits who are fully vaccinated, while Spain requires arrivals to have both jabs or a negative test.

TUI has also cancelled more flights and holidays until next month due to travel uncertainty, including to Spain, Greece and Italy.

However, Ryanair has launched a flash sale with £5 flights to countries son the green list – if you're quick.
