France to scrap Covid vaccine passport rules in holiday boost to Brits

FRANCE will scrap its Covid vaccine pass rules in the coming days, in a boost to Brits with holiday plans.

From March 14, people will no longer need to use France's Covid passport – called pass vaccinal – to enter restaurants, bars, cinemas or hospitals.

Face masks are also set to be scrapped on the same day, with the exception of public transport and care homes.

According to local media, Prime Minister Jean Castex told TF1 television the rule would be dropped because 'the health situation is improving'.

He said: "The situation is improving thanks to our collective efforts and the measures we have taken."

He added that the vaccine pass will, however, still be mandatory to enter care homes.

Currently, to access the pass vaccinal Brits either need to be fully vaccinated, show proof of recovery from Covid within the last six months or proof of medical exemption from vaccination.

Any travellers who do not fall into those categories are banned from entering venues which require the pass.

However, from March 14, anyone can enter those venues regardless of vaccination status.

The change will mean vaccinated Brits can go on holiday to France without having to adhere to many Covid rules.

To enter, vaccinated Brits need to show proof of vaccination and fill in a sworn statement confirming you're not suffering from Covid symptoms.

Currently, unvaccinated Brits can still only enter France for an essential reason.

France is the latest country to announce it is relaxing Covid rules, as the Canary Islands announced they hope to scrap restrictions by summer.

The Spanish islands, which include Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria, have been operating under a traffic light system since the pandemic began, depending on case numbers and hospital occupancy.

But now, the general director of Public Health José Juan Alemán has revealed the traffic light system will 'disappear before long'.

Oman has announced Brits no longer need a PCR test to enter, following in the footsteps of Cyprus, Italy and Dubai.

And Qatar has removed the UK from its red list, meaning UK arrivals no longer have to self-isolate when they enter the country.
