Green list update: Major holiday boost as Canada, Denmark, Switzerland and Azores among new countries added

BRITS have been given a major holiday boost as seven more destinations are added to the green travel list from Monday.

Canada, Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and the Azores have been given the go ahead for quarantine-free travel.

Brit tourists can also breathe a sigh of relief as France, Spain, Greece, Portugal and other European holiday hotspots stay put on amber.

Tonight's changes aren't as positive for holidaymakers in Montenegro and Thailand as both countries are being added to the Government's red list due to increased cases, and the higher risk to public health.

An outbreak of a new variant cannot be easily identified over there either, the Department for Transport say.

It means those currently soaking up the sun in the popular hotspots now have to fork out thousands of pounds for a 10-day stint in hotel quarantine.

Tonight's announcement now opens up potential quarantine-free getaways to the sunny Azores – and for ski holidays to the Swiss Alps.

The data for all countries will be kept under review and ministers have said they will not hesitate to take action should the data show that countries’ risk ratings have changed.

It comes as:

  • Cornwall’s Covid cases now so high it would ‘be on UK’s red list if it was a foreign country’
  • Tourists heading there were told NOT to visit unless they've been tested as cases spike
  • The changes will come into play next Monday at 4am

Vaccinated Brits will not be affected by any changes from green to amber, but those without both jabs will have to quarantine for 10 days and pay for an extra Covid test when returning to the UK.

Anyone coming back to Britain from a green list destination will need to have two Covid tests.

This includes a pre-arrival Covid test, and also a test on day two of returning to the UK.

Quarantine or additional testing is not needed upon return, unless the post-arrival test is positive.

WHAT COUNTRIES HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE GREEN LIST

  • Canada
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • Lithuania
  • Switzerland
