TELLING a white lie to bag a free bottle of champagne or room upgrade while on holiday seems like a relatively harmless thing to do.
But a woman has revealed why you should never lie to get free upgrades as there's an easy way you could get caught out.
Bride-to-be Louise found this out for herself when she was booking her honeymoon and was hoping to get some freebies for herself and her partner.
She explained that getting free upgrades isn't as easy as it used to be because hotels and restaurants have cottoned on to the fact that lots of people lie about celebrating a milestone event just to get free stuff.
So thanks to people telling porkies about it being their honeymoon, birthday or anniversary, holidaymakers are being asked to prove that they're telling the truth – meaning you could get caught out without a real marriage license.
As reported in Hello, Louise said: "I've been looking to book a honeymoon and part of the excitement was perhaps getting a perk or two since it's such a milestone holiday."

"You always hear about flight upgrades and bottles of champagne, but I was really surprised to see that a lot of classic honeymoon destinations require to see your marriage certificate to make sure you're not playing the system for the freebies.
"I can only imagine it's because people have been caught fibbing before, but it certainly takes the romance out of things a little."
It's no surprise hotels are asking for evidence, as a new study by Angelic Diamonds revealed that a whopping 84 per cent of couples would fake a life event in order to get perks.
A flight attendant recently did exactly that, as she revealed she and her husband always wear the same thing on flights – a t-shirt suggesting they're on their honeymoon.

While some people thought the hack was a good one, others branded it a scam and begged people not to do it.
A hotel worker commented on the video and said people "regularly tried to scam" their way into getting freebies, and by doing so it makes it harder to upgrade people who are really celebrating.
