Holiday boost as France scraps strict Covid pass rules from TODAY – here is how it will affect your holiday

FRANCE has scrapped its strict Covid vaccine passport rules, in a boost to Brits heading on their hols.

Today, the popular holiday destination ditched the requirement for people to use its Covid passport – called pass vaccinal – to enter restaurants, bars or cinemas.

Additionally, the mandatory use of face masks has been scrapped – with the exception of public transport and care homes.

Previously, to access the pass vaccinal, Brits either needed to be fully vaccinated, show proof of recovery from Covid within the last six months or proof of medical exemption from vaccination.

Any travellers who did not fall into those categories were banned from entering venues which required the pass.

But, from today, the pass has been scrapped, so people can enter bars, restaurants and gyms regardless of vaccination status.

At the beginning of the month, Prime Minister Jean Castex told TF1 television the rule was being dropped because 'the health situation is improving'.

He said: "The situation is improving thanks to our collective efforts and the measures we have taken."

Mr Castex has warned there has been a rise in Covid cases in France in recent days, but, despite this, has continued with reducing restrictions in the country.

He told local media: "Indeed, we are seeing a resumption of cases, as everywhere in Europe.

"[But] the improvement in the hospital and our high vaccination coverage lead us to maintain the lifting of the measures."

The change means vaccinated Brits can go on holiday to France without having to adhere to many Covid rules.

To enter, vaccinated Brits need to show proof of vaccination and fill in a sworn statement confirming you're not suffering from Covid symptoms.

Currently, unvaccinated Brits can still only enter France for an essential reason.

France is the latest country to relax its Covid rules, following in the footsteps of the Canary Islands.

Last week, all of the Islands – which includes Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote – began operating at the lowest level of Covid restrictions.

The Spanish islands have been operating under a traffic light system since the pandemic began, depending on case numbers and hospital occupancy.

But the islands were all downgraded to Level 1 Covid alert last week, meaning they can have 100 per cent capacity at all indoor and outdoor spaces, including cafés, bars and restaurants, and closing times can be by 4am.
