Holiday warning as thousands of Brits forced to pay extra to board their flight due to easy mistake

BRITS heading abroad for their next holiday are being warned to check all of the travel rules before arriving at the airport.

Thousands of travellers are still being caught out by Covid restrictions after thinking they have all been lifted.

The UK has lifted all of its travel rules which previously included Covid tests, quarantines and passenger locator forms.

And lots of countries abroad are starting to ease restrictions – vaccinated Brits no longer need to take a test to enter Spain, while Brits heading to France no longer have to be jabbed.

However, this doesn't mean all restrictions have been lifted, which some holidaymakers have found out the hard way.

Cignpost ExpressTest, who offer Covid testing at a number of UK airports, has said tens of thousands of travellers arrived without the correct Covid test certification during the Easter break.

Easter chaos continues – Brits face 5am airport queues and 3 hour wait for bags

This is because lots of countries still require Brits to have a Covid test to enter the country.

This includes the US, which requires a negative Covid test 24 hours before flying, and some European hotspots which require negative Covid tests from kids who are not fully vaccinated.

Tests range from £35 to £119 per person at the airport if needing results in just a few hours – although this still runs the risk of passengers being forced to miss their flights if they don't get them back in time.

Cignpost ExpressTest co-founder Nick Markham warned: "Because the UK Government has lifted all COVID restrictions, people naturally assume that all testing everywhere has ended."

"Airports are already under pressure with staff shortages often themselves caused by COVID infections.  That could mean longer queues at check-ins or for essential purchases at the airport.

"So having to queue for a last-minute test and then hoping the result comes through in time could leave travellers without time to clear security and catch their flight.

"We are urging all holidaymakers to check the entry requirements carefully for their destination before their departure date, and to book all necessary tests at the airport or in advance to avoid any last-minute holiday regrets."

Holidaymakers are being warned to expect a summer of travel chaos with massive disruptions at UK airports.

This week travellers hoping to jet off for the Easter holidays were met with five-hour long queues – while flights were cancelled or rescheduled.

Nearly 100 flights were cancelled between easyJet and British Airways yesterday.

Airports up and down Britain have been experiencing major staffing issues due to a surge in demand from people wanting to travel abroad after the pandemic – as well as Covid-related absences.
