Holiday warning as UK bans travel AGAIN to popular destination | The Sun

THE UK government has banned Brits AGAIN from Sri Lanka, just weeks after lifting travel restrictions.

The destination was placed onto the travel ban list earlier this year, only for the UK government to lift the restrictions last month.

However, Sri Lanka is back on the travel ban list due to ongoing unrest in the country.

The website states: "The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) advises against all but essential travel to Sri Lanka, due to the impact of the current economic crisis.

"Sri Lanka is experiencing a severe economic crisis which has led to shortages of basic necessities including medicines, cooking gas, fuel and food.

"There is a major shortage of fuel (diesel and petrol) affecting transport, businesses, and emergency services. There are daily power cuts due to electricity rationing.

"This has led to protests and violent unrest. Further protests, demonstrations, roadblocks and violent unrest could occur at short notice."

Brits who have holidays booked will need to speak to their tour operator as flights are unlikely to go ahead.

Holidaymakers who go to SriLanka against the UK government advice risk invalidating their travel insurance as well.

In response, TUI has been forced to cancel a number of their holidays to the region.
