FANCY escaping the capricious British weather for some sun and sand?
You could be eligible for a new scheme offering incredibly cheap flights Down Under.
What is the Australia £10 scheme?
The Australia £10 scheme has been started to boost tourism as the industry recovers from the pandemic.
The South Australian Tourism Commission launched the campaign in order to bring younger people to visit on working holiday visas to fill job roles and boost tourism.
The initiative is reminiscent of the so-called 'ten pound poms' scheme, a passage migration programme launched back in 1945, with jobs in farming, outback stations and hospitality on offer, according to Travel Weekly.
South Australian Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison said:
“Whether it’s in our bars, restaurants, wineries and hotels, or on our outback stations and farms, there are so many ways that British and Irish citizens can work in Adelaide and in regional South Australia, helping to not only fill roles but provide an economic and cultural exchange benefit which advantages both sides of the globe.
“We look forward to welcoming back young people from the UK and Ireland, and encourage them to make the most of these £10 fares.”
From May, 2022, Qatar Airways will offer 200 cut-price return flights to Adelaide, departing from London Heathrow, Manchester Edinburgh or Dublin.
Am I eligible for the Australia £10 scheme?
To qualify for the bargain flights, you must be between 18 and 30 in the UK or 18 to 35 in Ireland.
You must be able to prove you've got a working holiday visa and that you're able to get to Adelaide prior to September 30, 2022.
