BEACHES across the UK are expected to be busy once again this summer as more Brits opt for another staycation.
However, there is a clever way to avoid the crowds.
The Beach Check app was launched in 2020 during the pandemic to help holidaymakers find a sandy spot while being able to social distance.
While initially for popular hotspots across the UK – including Devon, Kent, East Sussex, Somerset and Hampshire – it was rolled out nationally last summer.
And the app is now available for beach trippers once more, and could be particularly handy this year when UK beaches seem increasingly tempting as the flight chaos continues.
You can download it for free from Google Play and the Apple App store, and there are thankfully no surprise in-app purchases.

It works by showing users individual beaches or sections of coast on a colour-coded map.
If an area of coastline is covered red then it means it’s crowded, amber signals that it's less congested and green means barely any crowds.
So far, more than 73,000 people have downloaded the handy app.
In 2020, it was tested by Bournemouth Council, who saw more than 500,000 tourists swarm to their beach.

At the time – when social distancing was still in force – local government minister Luke Hall described it as "Europe’s first innovative beach check app to allow people to check whether beaches are busy before travelling to avoid a surge of visitors."
He added: "This will allow coastal communities to carefully welcome back visitors and will help local areas bounce back from the hardship faced by the pandemic."
While normality may be returning to people’s days out, the app continues to provide a handy way to ensure some peace and quiet by the seaside.
NCTA Director Samantha Richardson added: "When temperatures have soared both this year and last, we have witnessed over-crowding on numerous hot-spot beaches around the country.
"This app developed by BCP Council allows users to plan ahead, travel to quieter areas to ensure safe social distancing."
