I spent £99 on a Mystery Wowcher holiday but it was a rip-off – I needed to pay an extra £400 for ONE night in Majorca

A WOMAN has slammed Wowcher after paying £99 for a Mystery Holiday package – only to have to fork out an extra £400.

Gaby Young shared a number of videos on TikTok explaining what happened when she bought the well-known bargain deal.

The £99 Mystery Holiday deal can be anything from a two-night stay in Europe to a seven-night stay in Bali or Thailand.

She told her 29k followers: "I was waiting for my confirmation on whereabouts I was going. They said it would take about two weeks as it was towards the end of the holiday term.

"It got to three weeks, so I called them, which took three hours to get through and when I finally got through, they said: 'You got Lisbon in Portugal.'"

She then said that she saw on social media that you can call Wowcher to request to change it, and saw more than "30 places" to choose from which included Venice and Rome.

Gaby continued: "For some reason, I picked Majorca, it was the only beach holiday they were offering."

One week before she went, she was finally given the flight confirmation, which showed her landing at 8pm on day one, and leaving to go back home two days later at 9pm at night – but had to check out at 10am that day.

She said: "I also had to pay an extra £80 for my luggage as that wasn't included so that was £280 [we had paid] for two people."

She then showed the airport which was the other end of the island to their hotel and said there was "was no transfer in season"

Gaby then said: "I ended up researching taxi prices, it was going to cost me €73 there and €84 back, which worked out to around £400 so far for one day in Majorca.

"Not including the activities, not including food. I didn't even get to sit next to who I wanted to on the plane."

She said that she didn't think it was "worth it and the whole stress of it".

Not only did she say it would be much cheaper to book a holiday yourself, but could probably get a better hotel, and stay for longer.

She also said she didn't end up going, but didn't get her money back.

People shared their own experiences with the £99 Wowcher deal.

Some also had bad experiences, with one girl saying she had a break to Croatia but had to "beg a TUI coach" to go back to the airport, and had to stay in a sister hotel when they arrived.

Someone else said they had Malta and ended up paying £500 in extras, saying they lost "£700 in total".

However, others had better experiences.

"NOT WORTH IT"

One person said they got upgraded to have five days in Rome and Venice, while else others said city breaks such as Budapest and Warsaw were better as they have "better transport links".

Back in 2019, a lad who bought the £99 Mystery Holiday managed to get a four-night trip to Dubai.

A Wowcher spokesperson told Sun Online: "We are sorry to hear that Gaby was disappointed with her Wowcher Mystery Holiday experience.

"Where possible our partner did try to accommodate Gaby’s preferences for her trip, including a change of destination at her request. We have checked that she confirmed the updated itinerary via the email that was sent to her from our partners at Weekender Breaks.

"As outlined in the Mystery Holiday terms and conditions, we guarantee a minimum of 40 hours in the destination of our 2 night breaks, which the customer did receive as per her outlined itinerary.

"We also outline in our T&Cs that any additional luggage or transfers are not covered by the £99 fee, but our partner does assure that any additional costs to customers are offered in line with the market rate.

"Here at Wowcher we aim to offer a high level of Customer Service and so we will be reaching out to Gaby to discuss her experience in more detail."
