A CAMPING expert has revealed their top tip people need to carry out before they even set off to make sure their holiday isn’t ruined.
Kathryn Berta only became a keen camper when she met her now husband Alan while at college and she fell in love with him and the great outdoors.
They purchased a KOA campsite in Brattleboro, Vermont, in 2019 and they manage it together for nine months out of the year.
Berta gave her expert knowledge to Reader’s Digest including one which everyone from beginner to expert should carry out before they set off on their trip.
She advised carrying out a “shakedown trip” or dry run with all your equipment, adding “this is one of the best camping tips you’ll ever learn.”
Berta said people needed to test out everything to see if anything is missing and to make sure people know how to put their tent up.

She said: “I’ve seen too many campers show up with brand-new camping gear and equipment still in the box and have absolutely no idea how to use it.
Berta added: “I’ve also seen seasoned campers who’ve forgotten the tent stakes because they haven’t checked the bag since the previous season.”
She advised people do a practice run with all the equipment you intended to take.
Everything should be set up and turned on and off to make sure it was still in good condition.
