I’m a Celebrity attraction opening in Manchester this year – which includes Base Camp, Croc Creek and Snake Rock

A NEW I'm a Celebrity attraction is opening in Manchester this year, where guests can compete to be crowned king or queen of the jungle.

The adventure attraction, first announced in 2019, was due to open last yeara but was delayed due to Covid.

Now opening this year, the I'm A Celebrity Jungle Challenge will be an indoor attraction at Salford near the Lowry Outlet Mall.

Guests will be able to spend 90 minutes on challenges such as zipwires, parachute drops and vertical climbing walls to collect the important gold stars.

It will feature replica areas of Base Camp, as well as the favourite Croc Creek and Snake Rock.

Winners can take their picture on the Jungle Challenge throne and the Winners Bridge.

Thankfully, there won't be any bug-eating competitions, nor any live animals.

William van Rest, ITV's director of games, live and merchandising, said any animals that would be included in the attraction wouldn't be real and would be virtual representations, according to the BBC.

He said: "Some of the games within I'm A Celebrity are things like treetop challenges, and one of the team who helps create the games for I'm A Celebrity is helping us with this."

A  'Tree-top Studio' gift shop will also let guests buy jungle-themed souvenirs to take home with them.

Tickets are yet to go on sale and an opening date has not yet been confirmed but eager visitors can keep track by registering their interest on the website.

Guests must be at least eight years old and over 135cm, and anyone between eight and 17 must be accompanied by an adult.

Due to coronavirus, this year's I'm A Celeb was filmed at Gwrych Castle in Wales – which could even be turned into a theme park-style attraction.

A source last year said of the scheme by ITV bosses: “They know there will be a massive demand for viewers to visit the castle where the celebrities have lived.

“So there are early discussions going on to open it up as a visitor attraction.

“You could visit Brentwood in Essex for the TOWIE experience, go to the Coronation Street set for a visit – and now you could experience Gwrych Castle, the new home of I’m A Celebrity.”

The team being the I'm A Celebrity Jungle Challenge are also behind the Emmerdale Studio Experience, as well as the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth.

ITV have also launched a Coronation Street set tour in recent years, also in Manchester.

Other exciting attractions in Manchester include the Crystal Maze, which launched the branch in the northern city in 2019.

In Birmingham, you can test your fears at The Bear Grylls Adventure.
