I'm a flight attendant and here are my top tips for dads travelling with small kids

A FLIGHT attendant has shared his top tips for dads travelling with small children.

As a father himself, Christian Avaria has picked up some pearls of wisdom to share with other dads.

The mantra he lives by when travelling with his kids is 'less is less' – a lesson he learned after taking as much stuff as possible on a flight.

He told Insider: "The first time I flew with my child I brought anything and everything. But I learned my lesson and now I say less is less."

He advised other parents to avoid taking bulky items, such as a pushchair or car seat, through the airport if you can help it, as it's just another thing to remember.

Most airlines, such as British Airways, allow parents to take their pushchair all the way to the door of the plane and then collect it as soon as they depart.

Christian said: "You can check your stroller or car seat when you get to the airport if your child is old enough to walk through the terminal.

"If you need to keep the stuff you'll need for your child in the terminal, you can bring the stroller and car seat in and check it at the ticket counter or gate as well."

"That also means once we arrive at the destination, the strollers and car seats come up first and don't go to baggage claim.

"Most airlines allow your stroller or car seat to be checked for free."

Although Christian advised packing light, he also emphasised the importance of having extra supplies for your child.

On top of that, he explained the importance of taking some additional items for yourself and other family members, in case your kid has an accident.

He continued: "While I can't stress enough that keeping carry on minimal is better, you'll still want to make sure you have extra supplies in your bag, like diapers.

"Many travelling mums always suggest keeping a change of clothes for every family member in their diaper bag, just in case."
