I'm a flight attendant and we hate long journeys – we do some strange things to pass the time instead | The Sun

FLIGHT attendants have revealed what they get up to when they have spare time on a flight.

A lot of people think the cabin crews' jobs will be quite full-on, but they actually sometimes get a lot of time to kill, especially during longer journeys.

In a thread on Reddit, they discussed what they get up to when they're not serving drinks or handing out blankets.

One attendant asked their colleagues: "After you do service and what not, what do you do?

"I get so bored and I catch myself walking down the aisle like every two to three minutes.

"I’m just curious as to what you all do after?"

Not everyone was as anxious to see the passengers as the attendant who asked the question.

One said: "I avoid walking down the aisle like the plague."

Others were even less enthused about the job, with one saying they "Stare out the window contemplating my life decisions."

However, plenty find time to either study, or entertain themselves, much in the same way passengers do, but chatting to co-workers isn't high on a lot of attendants' lists.

One said: "I read. I’m able to catch up on reading during night flights if my coworkers aren’t overly chatty."

Another wrote: "Sitting around gossiping isn't really my vibe.

"I take free educational courses online from various colleges on my iPad."

Meanwhile there were others who seemed overly-keen to talk to others.

One added: "I walk up and down the aisle every now and then and casually chat with people who make eye contact and seem interested."

For those not interested in reading or chatting, there are options for them elsewhere on the plane.

Bigger planes have rooms that are kept away from passengers, but can be found in the elsewhere on the aircraft.

Those cabin crew members are provided with single beds that are shielded by privacy curtains, meaning they can have a nap during breaks.

Travel expert and TikToker Michelle showed off some of the rooms in a video she shared online.

Michelle, who goes by the handle @laxtoluxury, told viewers why the rooms are needed on long flights.

She explained: “Do you know about this secret room where your pilots and flight attendants sleep?

“It’s called the crew rest, and on this Dreamliner, it’s behind the cockpit, up these hidden stairs that lead to a small room.

“[The room has] two beds that have curtains you can pull around them for additional privacy.”
