Internet divided after two women row over empty plane seats – but who was in the right?

A WOMAN has divided opinion after she let a passenger sit in the empty seat on a plane near her – only for them to take up the entire row.

The 20-year-old explained that she was traveling with her 23-year-old brother on a flight in Europe, but were not sat next to each other.

As soon as the doors closed, she realise she had two spare seats next to her, but before she could ask her brother to move to her, another passenger asked if she could sit there.

She explained: "I was going to move to the window though or ask my brother to come and sit with me because he needs special assistance at the airport so we have to wait until everyone else has got off so we can leave, it would have just been easier but it’s no big deal."

She then explained how despite letting her sit there, she then ended up taking up the entire two seats, taking up nearly all of the room.

The Reddit poster continued: "So she gets in and sits down, pulls her tray down, gets her laptop out, puts her bag and scarf on the middle seat in between us and hangs her coat up on the middle seat in front of us."

My boyfriend upgraded his plane seat to first class and left me in economy

I tried Ryanair’s most expensive seat – but people say I could’ve got it free

"I thought wow that’s pretty rude because the whole time I’ve been sitting here with my coat on my lap and my bag underneath the seat in front of me and she just comes in and takes over the space.

"So I move her stuff over a little bit as it was taking up the whole seat and also but my bag on the middle seat next to hers.

"She tells me very loudly to stop being mean to her and keeps telling me to calm down tbh I can’t remember what else she said because I was just surprised that she would reply like that. I hadn’t said anything else to her at that point."

While the flight attendant told her to move her bags, she said the woman even started poking her with an eyeliner pencil she had dropped, as well as kept using her laptop even when crew told her not to.

The poster finished by saying: "I know it’s petty and it’s not good to touch people’s stuff but it p***** me off and I couldn’t just ignore her."

Most people were on her side, claiming the woman was out of order.

One person said: "She figured you were young, so you wouldn't say anything and make a scene. People like that love to prey on situations like that."

Someone else agreed: "She sounds like a psycho."

Others said the seats weren't hers to gatekeep, with one person commenting: "You don't own the row of seats, your ticket just rents you a seat space for the flight.

"That you didn't think to have your brother sit with you isn't her fault. She doesn't know your situation."

Another person wrote: "You can't decide you want the seat once she's already moved to it."

It isn't the first plane seat row to split opinion on the internet.
