Is Spain on the green list?

Spain remains off the UK's green list, and is still on the amber list.

This means Brits will need the following when returning to the UK:

  • A negative test taken pre-arrival
  • A mandatory ten-day quarantine at home
  • Two Covid tests, taken on day two and day eight

However, while travelling to amber list destinations is not banned, the UK government warn against it.

Boris Johnson previously said: "It is not somewhere you should be going on holiday, let me be very clear about that."

The Benidorm mayor warned that Brits are unlikely to return to Spain before the end of July.

Toni Perez said "Our hope is that we can begin to receive British tourists at the end of July and start of August in the run-up to an autumn we hope will take place with the maximum normality possible."

Despite this, eager holidaymakers have already been heading to Spain after Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez announced it would allow Brits to return without proof of vaccination or a negative coronavirus test.

Spain reported 4,984 new cases yesterday, and have given 38 per cent of the population their first vaccine dose – the UK is at 58 per cent.

What are the travel restrictions for Spain?

Spain lifted all restrictions for British travellers last month, meaning arrivals do not need a negative test or to quarantine.

While the majority of the lockdown restrictions were lifted across Spain, there are different rules in place  for the islands which require a negative Covid test and still have curfews.

Most shops, bars, restaurants and museums have been able to reopen.

Face masks are required in all public spaces for anyone over the age of six, which includes while walking across beaches and resorts.

Portugal has also been added to the amber list, despite only being included on the green list weeks ago.
