MAJORCA is facing a massive tourism boom that has forced hotels tosuspend sales over the next few weeks.
A sudden influx of holidaymakers from the UK and the EU means some hotels are exceeding occupancy levels of 85 per cent, and they want less popular hotels to take the excess bookings.
It also means that many hotels are putting up their prices.
A report by the business association Pimem says eight out of ten hotels on Majorca have increased their nightly fees.
Island newspaper Ultimahora.es said: "Hotels in the main holiday areas of Majorca will stop sales over the next few weeks, due to the great tourist demand.
"The objective of the businesses is to avoid occupancy problems and encourage tourists to be diverted to hotels with occupancies lower than expected.
