Mama Shelter London Shoreditch review | The Sun

A dark reception with plush velvet arm chairs, garishly bright lampshades and a wacky ceiling graffitied with colourful doodles set the tone for Mama Shelter.

The brand first launched in Paris in 2008 and has since expanded to eight hotels in France, including three in Paris, with another launching in Rennes in Brittany next year.

Where is Mama Shelter London Shoreditch?

The seductive hotel is currently the only Mama Shelter in the UK.

It sits on the edge of London's Bethnal Green and is a ten-minute walk from the underground.

The crowd that stays here seem to match the funky decor too – expect trendy east London types and arty folk.

What is there to do at Mama Shelter London Shoreditch?

There’s a small gym in the hotel and karaoke booths if you’re up for a wild night.

You’re also close to some of London’s best nightlife in Shoreditch, with clubs like XOYO and The Blue’s Kitchen about a mile away.

If you’re there on a Sunday, take the short 8-minute walk to Columbia Road Flower Market, one of the capital’s oldest traditional flower markets.

What is there to eat and drink at Mama Shelter London Shoreditch?

The new menu is exceptional.

It features popular dishes from all over the world including ‘nduja sausage doughnuts, confit salmon spring rolls and a classically British fish and chips.

There’s plenty for vegans and veggies too from the mushroom arancini served with dolcelatte sauce to the pea and shallot tortellini filled with vegan feta cheese and fake nduja, topped with ‘this isn’t bacon’ bits.

Try the cocktails – our favourite was the Purple P. Martini made with gin, limoncello, lavender and lemon peel and decorated with butterfly pea flowers.

Breakfast is a little more than your average hotel buffet, with great scrambled eggs and smashed avo.

The rooms are completely geared up for couples – you can even watch free X-rated films on the TV.

Pick from a single, double, twin, triple or four-person room, each comes with ultra comfy beds topped with big fluffy pillows.
