Man divides opinion after being yelled at by woman for 'sitting in her grandson's seat' during flight

A MAN has divided opinion after a woman yelled at him for "sitting in her grandson's seat" during a flight.

The passenger said the incident occurred when he was looking for a seat near the front of his flight.

He explained on Reddit: "When I boarded the plane, I was in the last group to be boarded and was just looking for any seat that was open and close to the entrance.

"The reason why is because I had a layover flight with a 10-15 minute difference right after the plane lands.

"Right as I'm going down the aisle with my carry-on luggage and backpack, I notice an aisle seat that was open right next to an elderly woman and a maybe thirty year old woman in the window seat."

He said he checked there were no belongings in the seat, only for the elderly woman to "immediately make a fuss" because she said she was saving the seat for her grandson.

The man continued: "I then offered to switch seats with the grandson if it makes her feel more comfortable.

"Out of the corner of my eye I saw a teenager that looks like the descriptions the grandmother was telling me and he was talking to a flight attendant.

"The flight attendant then approaches our aisle and tells the grandmother, 'Your grandson told me to tell you that he'll be sitting at the back of the plane.'

"The grandmother immediately looks defeated and made comments here and there about how she wanted her grandson to sit in the seat.

"I felt bad but at this point it was out of my hands and the grandson made his choice.

Some people said he was in the wrong – one person said: " You should've asked if the seat was taken. Once the woman objected you should've found a different seat."

Another person agreed: "Somebody else had already claimed that seat and yet you sat in it while they were on the can. Then to avoid conflict they ch aged seats and you used that as an excuse to feel justified in taking the guys seat."

Others said it wasn't his fault, and that the grandson made his choice.

They said: "The grandson made his own decision. You were willing and able to let him have that seat."

Others saw it as a sign, commenting: "The grandson DID NOT WANT to sit with grandma."

A third agreed: "That kid 100 per cent did not want to sit next to his grandma. Not only are you NTA, you are his hero."

It isn't the first time people have disagreed on a flight – a couple was left stunned when a mum and a baby asked them to move from their seats for their husband – only for her to get mad when they said no.
