Montcalm East, Shoreditch, review | The Sun

Montcalm East reopened last year after a huge renovation focusing on the artistic history of Shoreditch.

Here's what it's like now and what there is to do nearby.

Where is Montcalm East?

The hotel is the best location for exploring East London.

It is just steps from the trendy bars and restaurants of Hackney, while being a short train ride from all of London’s attractions.

The nearest tube station is Old Street, a couple of minutes' walk away.

What is Montcalm East like?

Its 80s and 90s-inspired interiors hark back to the hey-days of iconic artists like Damien Hurst and Tracy Emin.

Make sure to visit the Bokeh spa with a swimming pool and fitness classes, the highlight is the CBD massages to really switch off after a long day.

The stunning hotel lobby is also stocked with Hoxton Press books and a range of photography and art magazines, but the whole of London is on your doorstep, so it's well worth getting out and exploring.

What is there to eat at Montcalm East?

You aren’t short of choices for restaurants and bars nearby, but the hotel’s Moor & Mead is the best option for a dinner without leaving the hotel.

It has a taste of everything including sourdough pizzas and steaks, although my favourite was the vegetarian gnocchi with whipped goats cheese.

And stay for the cocktails served at the on-site bar, with all of the classics on offer, as well as its own East London gin.

What are the rooms like at Montcalm East?

There are 288 guest rooms, the stars of the show being the Sky-High rooms on the top floor with views of London outside the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Each room has Nespresso machines, tea-making facilities and fully stocked minibars, as well as underfloor heating and modern en-suites featuring Anatome toiletries.

Don’t worry if you run out of bottled water, as there are filtered still and sparkling taps in the corridor to refill your bottles.
