A HUGE multi-million-pound plan has been given the go-ahead to save a popular UK airport.
Doncaster Sheffield Airport was forced to close last year, with the last TUI flight landing on November 4, 2022.
The Peel Group, who currently owns the airport, said it was no longer "commercially viable" to operate flights from.
However, the City of Doncaster Council has been campaigning to reopen the airport by buying it back from the Peel Group.
The council has now agreed to set aside £3.1 million of funding as part of the reopening campaign, to cover legal costs.
A report following the meeting today said: "Given its strategic importance, economic value and significant growth potential, plans to re-open the airport are being vigorously pursued.
